Dear traveller, if you are going to visit Egypt, the land of pyramids, pharaohs and Moses' biblical journey, I recommend:
- To enter Egypt, you must have a passport valid for at least six months and pay an average of US$25 for a visa, which you can do upon arrival at the airport. I suggest you have copies of your passport.
- If you're travelling from South America, I found it much cheaper to stop over in Madrid, Spain, and Casablanca, Morocco. I recommend you give it a try.
- Have your yellow fever vaccination card. During my stay in Egypt, we were never asked for it, but it is important to have it as a precaution. If you are over 70 years old, it is not mandatory to carry it.
- If you want to have internet access in Egypt, I recommend buying a SIM card for $15. I bought one and shared data with my whole group for five days without any problems.
- It is more economical to travel to Egypt through an agency, as you save money and time compared to doing it privately. It is safer and can be tailored to the language you want.
- Make it easy to buy souvenirs. I suggest you haggle, as sellers may ask for anywhere from twice to nine or ten times the final price.
- If you are on a tight budget, I recommend purchasing papyrus scrolls with beautiful sequences drawn and painted by local artists. I purchased 12 papyrus scrolls for £10.
- Set aside at least 10 days so you can visit the North Zone (Pyramids of Giza and National Museum) and South Egypt (Luxor), take a cruise on the Nile, and if you wish to follow in the footsteps of Moses, you should go to the Eastern Zone, passing through the Red Sea and travelling through the spectacular Sinai desert until you reach the mountain where Moses received the Ten Commandments from God.
